On This Day...

On this day, January 21, in 1793 (216 years ago), King Louis XVI of France was executed. Although Louis XVI openly accepted the French Revolution, he resisted the advice of constitutional monarchists who sought to reform the monarchy in order to save it. In November of 1792 evidence of his counterrevolutionary relationship with Austria and other foreign nations was discovered and he was put on trial for treason by the National Convention. In January 1793 Louis XVI was convicted and sentenced to death by a small majority. On January 21 he walked abidingly to the guillotine and was executed. His queen, Marie Antoinette was sentenced to the same death 9 months later.

Spotted: TJ and Maya

TJ and her close friend, Maya Robinson, were spotted out at dinner earlier this week. They were catching up because apparently they hadn't seen each other in a while. From the looks of it, they enjoyed themselves. They look nice.

Check This Out!

Check this out: twitter.com
If you haven't heard about it, you should get used to it because I'm sure it'll be the next big thing. Yes, it is another social website, but it's not as elaborate or as complicated as myspace.com or facebook.com. In fact, it's so simple, a 7 year old could probably operate it. Twitter is simply a way for the people that are important to you to know what you are doing in between all of the, well, important stuff. It's like updating your Facebook status, or the original intent of such. As where Facebook statuses have become a portal for people to express opinions and feelings about what is happening in their lives, Twitter strives to stay away from that by allowing users to ask and answer the ever so common question, "What are you doing?" It may seem irrelevant in the grand scheme of social networking, but it could probably have some very practical uses. With twitter.com you will know when your friends and family are on the phone, or walking the dog, or taking a nap. It's efficient and it could save time. You could log onto Twitter, read that your best friend is in an important meeting, and decide to save your phone call about a new macaroni recipe until later. Sounds good, right? You might be thinking, "Well, I'm not always near a computer to check twitter.com statuses, so it's a no-go for me." Wrong! That's already been taken care of. Like so many other social sites, twitter.com has a mobile application that is even more easy to operate than the website itself. So check out twitter.com today, make a profile so that you can tell all of your friends that you had one first, and breathe easy knowing that you'll never have to hear the question, "What are you doing", ever again.

Peep This!

Here we go again!!! Ok. I don't need anymore proof. Jazzy J and Winky have been spotted together again! This time they seem to be rounding second base. Sources close to them still say they are "just friends" and I'm not one to accuse anyone of lying, but it does seem like they are more than just friends. It's obvious. Just peep the pics!

I'm gonna keep you updated on this budding romance. As the details come out, I'll be sure to spill the milk.

On this day, January 19, in 1953 (56 years ago), Episode #56 of I Love Lucy, "Lucy Goes to the Hospital," aired for the first time. In this episode Lucy Ricardo, played by Lucille Ball, and Ricky Ricardo, played by Lucille's real life husband Desi Arnaz,  welcomed their son, Little Ricky. This episode was one of the most popular in television history. It was one of the first American television programs to deal with the issue of sex, a taboo subject in conservative 1950s America, when most married couples weren't even shown sharing the same bed. 44 million viewers (72% of all U.S. homes with a television) tuned in, while only 29 million tuned in for President Dwight D. Eisenhower's inauguration the previous night.

I Love Lucy  debuted in 1951 and quickly shot to the top of the charts, remaining at the top of the ratings for 4 of its 6 years on television. Prior to I Love Lucy, Lucille Ball performed on a radio show called My Favorite Husband. CBS proposed that she start a television show and Ball agreed as long as her husband, Desi Arnaz, could co-star. After some reluctancy the show began filming. The couple's production company, Desilu, won rights to produce the show and negotiated 100% ownership, making Ball and Arnaz television's first millionaires.

Hottie Alert!

Maybe she's sexy because she's unattainable. Maybe she's sexy because she's independent. Maybe she's sexy because she has impeccable taste...or maybe she's sexy because she just is. Amber Glenn is beautiful, smart, stylish, talented, and, in many ways, perfect. That's what makes her hott! It may be impossible to list all of the reasons why she is hot, but the fact remains, the girl has got it goin' on!!! Many guys find her irresistible because she's unattainable (yes, she's taken.), but most wouldn't think twice about taking the opportunity if she was still available. She just has everything a guy could want in a girl, plus everything a girl could want for herself. And uhhh, what could be more desirable than a girl who has it all?

On This Day...

On this day, January 18, in 1990 (18 years ago), Washington D.C. Mayor Marion Barry was arrested on drug charges. After a thorough investigation by the FBI and the District of Columbia police Barry was caught and charged with drug possession and the use of crack at the Vista International Hotel in Downtown Washington. Barry was caught smoking crack with Rahsheeda Moore,  a woman who agreed to set up Barry in exchange for a reduced sentence in an earlier drug conviction. As she was taken away, he repeatedly yelled, "The bitch set me up!" She sure did, Mr. Barry. He was sentenced to 6 months in prison in September 1991, and was elected as Mayor again in 1994 for an unprecedented 4th term.

On This Day...

On this day, January 15, in 1967 (42 years ago), the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers competed in the first ever Super Bowl. The game was held in the Los Angeles Coliseum. At the time, it was a game between the best team in both the National Football League (NFL) and the American Football League (AFL). The Green Bay Packers won the game with a score of 35 points to the Kansas City Chiefs' 10 points. The term 'Super Bowl' wasn't officially introduced until 1969, and in 1970 the NFL and the AFL merged into one league, the National Football League, with two separate conferences, the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference, each with 13 teams. Ever since, the Super Bowl has been a battle to win the NFL Championship and the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy, named for the legendary Packers' coach that led his team to victory in the first two Super Bowl games.

On This Day...

On this day, January 13, in 1942 (67 years ago), Henry Ford patented a plastic bodied automobile. During that time, plastic was a relatively new material and was becoming more and more useful in all kinds of industries. Ford called the car the HEMP car. It was 30% lighter than ordinary cars. Although most cars today are made of metal, for safety purposes, plastic parts are becoming more common.

Amber and TJ's Golden Globe Fashion Picks!

So, I asked Amber and TJ to choose their favorite fashion picks from the 2009 Golden Globe Awards, which aired this past Sunday. I don't know anything about women's fashion, but they sure do. Amber seemed to be taken by Jennifer Lopez's dress exclaiming, "I think J.Lo killed it!" When a red carpet reporter asked Jennifer if her dress was taped on this year, she replied, "Always." Damn, she looks good. TJ did not think so highly of J.Lo's decision. She said, "It was too flashy, and gold, and cut low, and bad."

TJ liked January Jones' dress. I think she looks classic.

TJ also appreciated Drew Barrymore's look. I think the messy look is cool sometimes. Amber disagreed, saying "Ugh! I hated Drew Barrymore's look!"

Do these two agree on anything? Yes. They both liked Kate Beckinsale's dress! Yeah, she does look pretty. Since this is the only thing that they agreed on, I declare Kate Beckinsale Best Dressed Female at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards. Congratulations Kate!

Designer Spotlight: Abstract Aura

Abstract Aura is a hot, young clothing line by 18 year old, Marlon White. It is a collection of t-shirts and hoodies displaying words and graphics representative of the things that go through the minds of young people. The use of fresh, bright colors allows these thoughts to be clearly understood and deciphered, leaving way for a clear concept and message. The logo for Abstract Aura perhaps represents the eye of young person, while the clothes represent the way he or she views the world.
